I thought this was quite a sad photo from World War I, I wonder how many of these ‘tired but grimly determined’ young men trudging their way to the front line in 1918 ever made it home.
It is unfortunate that there is no mention of the location where this photo was taken, it would really be interesting to know. A photo like this just brings up so many questions!
How far had these young men walked, and how far did they have to go before they made it to the front? How do you think the people who lived in the house in the background felt about the column of soldiers passing by?
