I hardly think that one family doing all they can to preserve life over a lean season qualifies as ‘peasants addicted to hibernation’! It sound as though they are just doing the logical thing to ensure survival.
Perhaps the investigators who believe the peasants are not helping ‘develop the resources of the nation’ while they are lazing around should spend a few hungry weeks with this family and see how productive they would be!
