Just to exacerbate the suffering of the Collingwood supporters after the Grand Final loss over the weekend, here is another example of their beloved Pies being beaten by the Cats, this time in 1925. I bet the entry tickets were cheaper back then.
The MCG looks like a very different place these days, no such thing as corporate boxes in 1925! I am sure this crowd was ‘enormous’, although these days the ‘G reportedly has seating for 100,000.
The caption reads;
GEELONG WINS LEAGUE FOOTBALL PREMIERSHIP.
The feature of the grand final match for the League football premiership, played at the Melbourne Cricket ground on Saturday, was the enormous crowd which watched the play. Geelong won the match by 15 goals 19 behinds against Collingwood’s 9 goals 15 behinds. When the photograph was taken Collingwood was attacking the Geelong goal.
