Lazy today.

I have been very lazy today. It was the last day of term for the kids so they knocked off earlier than normal and completely messed up my normal system. As a result I pretty much achieved nothing for the entire day. No, I don’t feel the slightest bit guilty.

Now it is school holidays the kids and I will be spending much of the next two weeks sleeping in, playing video games, and watching cartoons. Ahhh, bliss. 😀

Since I am on the theme of laziness the only appropriate thing to share with you is this clip. I already loved the song by Bruno Mars but when I found this version with Leonard Nimoy being the lazy one my day was made. 😀

Well, what an interesting day it has been in Australian politics. (ABC News)

I say that as a person who doesn’t really have much interest in the day-to-day machinations of the political parties and thinks they should all just stop whining about each other and get on with governing.

Nevertheless, the events of the day have been most interesting and I would have loved to be a fly on the wall in the caucus room when the vote was taken and our Prime Minister Julia Gillard was ousted by her long-term nemesis, Kevin Rudd.

I have done posts about the rivalry between Kevin and Julia before (Feb 2012 i and ii) and more recently there were murmurings of a spill. This had a high price for a few notable politicians when Kevin was a no-show.

Since the PM called the election an age ago, Kevin has been a busy little bee, buzzing around and making sure every photo opportunity was grabbed with both hands. Even though he said he was being helpful and doing his best to advance the party, pretty much everyone else described it as destabilization.

Tonight, with him being restored to the top of the pile, it seems as though his evil plan to regain power and destroy Julia has finally come to fruition….. All I can imagine now is him going home to his lair of evil, taking down all the pictures of Julia he has on the walls, with texta’d on fangs and moustaches, and replacing them with pictures of the next enemy on his list, Tony Abbot. *insert dramatic music here*

Kevin will have his hands full leading his party to the next election. After all, they have to campaign against an opposition who has been given the gift of all those soundbites from members of his own party telling us all what a horror he was to work with when they chucked him out last time.

A youtube clip has already been cobbled together and I am sure we will be sick to death of similarly dramatic ones playing in every ad break by the end of the week. I’m just hoping that the election comes quickly so someone can get on with managing the country. Yeah, I know, neither of those things will happen….

Oh well, as the cartoon says below, what’s going to happen next?!

I love Nina Simone’s voice and when I found this clip I had to share. How much more appropriate can it get than a sultry plasticine cat channeling her voice in a dimly lit jazz club. 😀

Ballinakill Merman (the comic version). 1937

Last year I did a post about the Ballinakill Merman. In the comments we had many theories about this event; mostly related to the level of inebriation that Thomas O’Toole and Michael Warde were at when they saw the red-lipped, bushy eyebrowed, and partially blue-skinned denizen of the deep breast-stroking towards them in Ballinakill Bay back in 1937.

In my wanders through Trove today I stumbled across this funny comic strip from the time.

It just shows we weren’t the only ones who thought that Michael and Thomas should have kept their mouths shut after giving the Merman that smack on the head with the oar. 😀

Three string magic.

If seems a lot of you liked the Seasick Steve clip I posted the other day so I thought I would share another one with you.

This time he is singing the Dog House Boogie, and this performance with a three string guitar and his Mississippi Drum Machine just goes to show that you don’t need expensive instuments to create a bit of magic.

Frozen vegies.

This morning was quite cold. At just over 1.3deg C apparently it was the coldest June morning in the past decade… brrrrr…

As we are piling the wood into the fire as fast as we can at the moment the kids and I didn’t really notice it until we stepped outside to let Jack out for her morning run. Brrrr again! (add some more wood)

I went for a wander to the veg garden to see if any of them were suffering in the cold but, luckily, they all seemed perfectly happy. As they are quite sheltered they were only slightly frozen and covered in heavy dew. Of course this meant I dashed back into the house for my camera before the warm morning sun reached them and burned all the beautiful drops off.

The Kale comes pre-washed.
