Since all the posts this week have been about shark battles I thought I had better include a relevant song, but which one? Are there any songs about being eaten by sharks? Not really a situation that lends itself to romantic lyrics is is? If you have any suggestions please share!
Well, the first song with aย hint of someone being eaten thatย popped into my mind was this one, Pokeย Salad Annie by Tony Joe White*.
Yes, I know it isn’t a song about shark attacks but how could I not include it; Poke salad Annie/Gators got ya Granny/chomp, chomp chomp….. ?! ๐
* Or Polk Salad Annie.
The first time I saw this clip I was amazed that such a bluesy voice came out of someone who looked like one of the Beatles. And was white. Who’da guessed?
I love Tony Joe White. Way cool.
Sometimes the voice just doesn’t fit the face does it?
Yeah, looks can be surprising sometimes. Susan Tedeschi is another such artist.
How about Pat Benatar’s “Hit me With Your Pet Shark”? ๐
Is the second line “aargh aargh aargh!” ๐
What about the carol ‘SHARK! The herald angels scream’? ๐
The wonderful world of misheard lyrics could take us off on a whole other tangent…
We could probably do a weeks worth of posts on that topic alone!
ooh, what about Deep Purple’s ‘Shark in the water’…. ok, I’ll stop now. ๐
I’ve STILL got “gator’s got your granny” running around in my head – maybe this will dislodge it ๐
That’s certainly some family! Even Annie made the alligators look tame…..I’ve never really thought about the lyrics before, although I have loved the song. And who knew that’s what he looked like?!
It was, wasn’t it, wonder what her granny was doing out in the swamp to get eaten?
Elvis did this song as well but I like this version the best.
I don’t know if it’s just me but I only got one word in two when he spoke. Thanks to your ‘spoiler’ I did get the ‘Gators got your granny, chomp, chomp, chomp’ line. He’s certainly not how I imagined him to be from hearing the song before. xx Hugs xx
His appearance is certainly not what I ever expected even though I had heard the song a million times.
You might have to take your brain down a few octaves to understand him ….. Down in Louisiana/ where the alligators grow so mean/ there lived a girl who I swear to the world/ made the alligators look tame/ Poke salad Annie……. ๐
OMG… I always thought he /was/ black. Love this song. … her mama was workin’ on a chain gang.. ๐
And her daddy was lazy and no count…..
I thought he was black too, and much older!
-blush- I always thought he had one of the sexiest voices ever – like James Earl Jones set to music. ๐

I can’t believe you didn’t include this ๐ : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvCI-gNK_y4
Ahhh… The Jaws theme. Dah nah… Dah nah… It has so many uses in our house and I bet we aren’t the only ones. The last bit of cake on a plate, we hear “dah..nah…” and we know it is shorthand for eat it or lose it. ๐
Funny how that simple thing has become part of the lingo isn’t it? You hear ‘dah nah’ and you know that someone/thing is about to get chomped. ๐
Heart’s ‘Barracuda’ is the closest I can come. Gotta love two more rock divas who shine in this clip.
(I now have proof of exercise being good for the brain. This popped into my head at the gym this morning!)
Oooo, barracuda! *goes off with her air guitar* ๐
