Today is the first day of school holidays and I am very excited. I love them! No schedules, no having to get everyone off early when we really want to stay in bed, I don’t even have to do my hair! I am not one of those mums that complains about the kids being home and wishing that they would just bugger off. I look forward to the time with them and I am just as sad as they are when the holiday is over and I have to send them back to school. We don’t have things to do every day and we don’t spend all of our time at the movies and the shops. We just hang around the house and do ‘stuff’. We probably play the Wii too much and we wear our pyjamas longer than is really necessary each morning but isn’t that what school holidays are all about?
There are times when they drive me crazy and I am sure I drive them mad too but we all end the holidays happy that we have been together and refreshed for the next term. The only problem is that the poor man of the house has to get up for work each morning when we have every intention of staying tucked up as long as possible. It is quite cold today and the only physical effort I have had to put in is shovelling some old coals out of the hearth to make space and hauling wood from the verandah inside to get the fire going again.
Now, if you will excuse me, I have to go and watch number 2 son obliterate some innocent bystanders with the assistance of Indiana Jones on the Wii. It’s a strain I know, but I’m happy to drag myself out to the loungeroom for him….
