A confused jumble or medley of things. It is also what we are having for dinner tonight, a dish made from diced or minced meat such as a hash or ragout. The kids are happier hearing they are having gallimaufry for dinner than they are stew.
I have never seen a recipe for Gallimaufry but I can safely say we have all cooked it at some time. Once you have finished cooking it your kitchen probably looks like the confused jumble part of the definition as well.
My handbag and car also contain a gallimaufry. I like this word, it is extremely useful.
The word immediately after it in my dictionary is Gallimimus. This is an ostrich-like dinosaur. It caught my eye as a perfect partner to gallimaufry. A Gallimimus Gallimaufry. Ostrich stew. Haven’t got the recipe for that one either!
